Massage Therapy

Massage therapy encompasses many different styles and techniques. The important thing to know is that there are many ways to get a desired result. Sometimes, to get a stubborn knot to release, it requires deeper pressure which can be uncomfortable in the moment, but after results in a release of tension and relief of pain. This does not always work with some issues or it can be too painful to be used, and a softer approach is needed. A lighter pressure treatment is often relaxing and encourages circulation movement reducing inflammation and tension.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Feeling stiff after sitting all day for work? Looking to gain a bit more flexibility for your sport or activity that you do? FST is a great option for you. Done fully clothed (in athletic wear) on the table the therapist will bring you through a series of stretches that targets the fascia. This is a connective tissue layer that surrounds and connects all the muscles in the body. This can be especially effective in reducing low back pain and increasing flexibility in the lower extremities and hips.

Temporal Mandibular Joint Massage

Simply put, this is a massage for all the muscles surrounding the jaw joint. This can be done externally or internally. When done internally, the therapist will be wearing gloves and target the muscles that reside on the inner part of jaw, alongside the teeth. While normally these muscles can be quite tender when massaged, it can be especially relieving for those that suffer from migraines or headaches.

Cupping

Cupping is a great addition to other therapies. Whereas massage is a more compressive force, cupping has a lifting action. This separates different tissue layers, increasing blood flow, reducing tension, and easing fascial restrictions. There is usually a dark bruise-like mark that remains on the skin after cupping. These usually only last for a few days up to a week. Cupping is great for athletes to target stiff areas or for people with stubborn areas of tension in their bodies.

Please send a message if you have questions about the best treatment time for your goals. In general, 30 minutes is sufficient for one area of the body or concern (ie neck tension), 45 minutes could expand to 2 areas of the body (ie back and neck tension), 1 hour could be done full body with focus on a particular area of concern.

All of the modalities listed are covered under the RMT license, so can be submitted to insurance as such.
